Why rent a Mac at all

Because some work only happens on macOS. Signing and shipping an iOS app needs Xcode, which needs a Mac. Final Cut, Logic and Motion are Mac-only. CI for an Apple platform needs a Mac runner. Buying one for occasional use is a four-figure decision; renting one is not.

Dedicated hardware, not a VM

These are whole machines assigned to one customer, not virtualised slices of one. You get the full CPU, the full GPU and the full Neural Engine, and nothing else is scheduled against them. That is also why stock is finite and why these take a little longer to hand over than a VPS does.

Getting in

Screen Sharing (VNC) for the desktop, SSH for the command line, and Xcode's own remote tooling works normally. Credentials arrive by email once the machine is assigned.
