Renting servers with crypto: the questions we get

Do I need to verify my identity to rent a server?

No. There is no identity step anywhere in the process and no mechanism in our system that could store a document if you sent one. We ask for an email address so we have somewhere to send your credentials, and that is the only personal detail involved in an order.

Which cryptocurrencies can I pay with?

Bitcoin, Monero, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, Solana, Litecoin, Tron, Dogecoin and around forty others. The checkout shows the full list with the ones currently eligible for your order's price. Monero is the most private option and is what a large share of our customers use. USDT and USDC are sent at exactly the quoted figure, with no exchange-rate movement between the quote and your transfer.

How quickly will my server be ready?

A VPS, RDP, high-CPU, storage or game server is usually provisioned within a few hours of the deposit confirming on-chain. SMTP relays take a little longer because the DNS records on your domain have to be set up and the sending IP warmed. Mac hardware is the slowest, typically within a day, because each one is a physical machine that has to be allocated rather than spun up.

What operating systems can I have?

On a VPS: Ubuntu 24.04 and 22.04, Debian 12, AlmaLinux 9, Rocky Linux 9, Fedora, Arch, Alpine, NixOS, and FreeBSD on request. On RDP: Windows 11 Pro, Windows Server 2022 and 2019, or a Linux desktop with XFCE or GNOME. Mac machines run current macOS. You can reinstall and switch distribution from the panel whenever you like.

Do I get root access?

Yes, on everything. A VPS is a KVM virtual machine, not a container, so you can load kernel modules, run Docker, change the firewall and reinstall the OS. RDP accounts have administrator rights. Mac machines are whole dedicated machines with admin.

Is a VPS or an RDP the right thing for me?

An RDP is a desktop you look at; a VPS is a server you log into. If you need to run a Windows application, browse from another country, or hand somebody a working environment who is not comfortable in a terminal, you want an RDP. If you are hosting something, a VPS does the job and costs less. There is a longer guide on the difference.

How do renewals work without a card?

They do not happen automatically, which is deliberate: there is no card on file to charge. Your server runs for the term you paid for, we send a reminder email a week before it expires, and paying for the next term keeps it running. A server that is not renewed is suspended and then deleted after a grace period, which the reminder email states.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

The server is suspended at the end of the paid term and the data is held for seven days, during which paying for the next term restores it untouched. After that it is destroyed. If you need an extension, ask — we would rather hold a disk for a few more days than delete something you still wanted.

Can I get a refund?

If we cannot provision what you ordered, you get a full refund without having to ask. If you have changed your mind within 48 hours of a server being handed over and you have barely used it, ask and we will usually refund it. Past that, no: the capacity is allocated and the month is committed.

Do you keep logs of what I do on my server?

No. We do not inspect traffic, we do not index filesystems and we have no visibility into what runs inside your instance. The records we do keep are the ones an operator needs to run a hosting business: which order bought which machine, when it is due, and the abuse reports we receive about an IP.

What can I not run?

Unsolicited bulk mail, port scanning and intrusion attempts, malware hosting or command-and-control, content that is illegal in the hosting jurisdiction, and anything aimed at taking a third party offline. The full policy is short and we enforce it, because the IP reputation other customers depend on is shared.

Can I buy a bare-metal or dedicated machine?

Yes, but not through the configurator. Dedicated hardware is specced and quoted case by case. Tell us what you need and we will come back with a price.

Do you offer hourly billing?

Not yet. Everything here is monthly, with a prepay discount on three, six and twelve months. GPU customers in particular ask for hourly, and it is the next thing on the list.

Where are the servers?

Frankfurt and Helsinki in the EU, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Ashburn and Los Angeles in the United States, and Singapore. You pick the region in the configurator. For an RDP, pick the one closest to you — latency is what makes a remote desktop feel local or awful.

Can I have more than one IP address?

Yes. Additional IPv4 addresses are available on request for a small monthly amount, and IPv6 blocks are free. SMTP relays include the IPs their plan specifies.
